Trip to Bohol will not be complete without a visit to the famous Chocolate Hills. Weve been here so many time so we are a witness to the ever evolving changes on the tourist attraction.

The first time we been here was in the late 80's I remember we have to walk from the foot of the hill to the top. You can count foreign visitor who wants a glimpse of the hills. There are no business stablisment aroud except for the main hall were you can have a break and snacks. Theres is no yet a pathway on the sides of the hill just plane stairway to heaven as some call it, a tiring 214 steps leading to the observation or view deck.

From our latest vist, the trees were cut, maybe because they want the tourist to have a full view of the entire landscape as in 360 degree like the panorama you are see here. kinda sad but for the pleasure of viewing the trees had to suffer.

I think they have a plenty of room for those who want to stay just beside the hall.

Now, and most of all, the non-stop continuing arrival of service vans carrying visitors from different part of the world is an attest that Chocolate Hills is still one of the best tourist destination in the Philippines or even in the World.

How to get there

Tagbilaran (Bohols Capital city) has gone a long way as it was before, not with the airport main building but when it comes to the number of plane that arrives. Before, airplanes (airbus) only comes once a day so after the plane departs from the airport you go can and play on the runway since the security its not that tight by that time. Every morning we joined our relatives jogged in the runway. those where the days...

Now you can get to Bohol with different flight schedule from most of our major airlines. The airport is not as modern compare to other provinces but it will be soon, as they are developing an international airport in Panglao Island. You will be greeted with a warm welcome from the Bohol natives and outside awaits service guys from different hotels and resort. You can pick one of them if you dont have someone to fetch you. Theres always a taxi waiting and the common way Tricycle.

A lot of tourist guides or tour operators will be as happy as you are to bring you to the chocolate hills as part of their package or either as a separate trip or as part of a day tour. However if you are adventurous and want to go here by yourself, from Tagbilaran, you will have to go the bus terminal in Dao just in front of their famous mall Island City Mall and catch a bus going to Carmen. If this is your first time, you will have a hard time not finding one. At the entrance of the bus terminal people will point you to the right bus. Be sure it is the first one to leave, and sometimes when its about to leave its full jampack. You can ask the driver or his assistant to eject you off at the Chocolate Hills complex, about 4 kilometers before the town of Carmen. From there its time to start the 10 minute walk along a road winding up to the complex.

To get back to Tagbilaran, you will have to walk back to the main road, and wait for a bus to pass by. The last bus from Carmen to Tagbilaran leaves at four P.M. Alternatively, you can use the services of the motorcyclists whom they called 'habal-habal' who often wait here for tourist and take you to the nearest terminal or even brought you back to Tagbilaran.

Now, relax! :)
